Prepare for an in-depth journey through the object-oriented UX—information architecture for the real world.

Together, we will design systems comprised of consistent and recognizable objects that match our user’s mental model. By focusing on objects, we will learn new strategies to create elegantly simple and intuitive design systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What will I learn?
You will learn to match screen-based experiences with a user’s mental model of their real world, in effect, making your system recognisable and familiar. After this two-day intensive course, you will understand the psychology behind OOUX: why it’s important and why it leads to better designs. You’ll also learn several practical methodologies you can immediately start using with your team:
  • DAY 1
    • Intuitive Module Design: The four biggest UX fails and how to avoid them?
    • Object Identification and Definition – What object should we represent in our system?Object Mapping – What is the structure of our objects?
  • DAY 2
Call-to-Action Inventory – Also known as a Functionality Audit. How do the objects relate to the user? What will a user want to do to the objects?
Object Roadmap and Prioritization – What is the priority of objects and their elements? What core objects must be designed and developed first? What can come later?
OOUX-style Object Sketching – How will the objects be represented on-screen?
Running an OOUX Workshop – How to bring OOUX back to your workplace?

Day 1 will be taught as a stand-alone intro course for those that just have the time or budget to learn the fundamentals.
Day 2 will build on what we’ve learned, giving you more practical skills to create amazingly elegant user experiences.

  • Do I need to know how to code?
Nope! But this will help you work with developers that code “object-orientedly“!
  • Do I need previous experience designing apps?
OOUX is great framework to use as an entry level UXer who needs a clear process and needs to know where to start. It’s also great for seniors, directors, who what more structure and less stress around their process.
  • How will we work during the class?
Mostly in sticky notes with the help of a few worksheets! We will be completely analog for two days straight! We will kick off the first day with a two hour Interactive Lecture. Then your team will choose from two design challenges. Sophia will walk team through the art and science of identifying, mapping, and modeling objects. This will all be done using color-coded sticky notes. At the end of the day, we will present our object maps and learn from each other. On day two, we will jump into the CTA Inventory to define the functionality of our system. We will determine a prioritized roadmap for our design using dot-voting. Finally, we will do some sketching on our objects, turning the corner into screen-design. At the end of day two, Sophia will give practical tips on how to bring an OOUX workshop back to your organization. As you apply OOUX to your current design challenges, you’ll bring your team together to gain clarity and give elegant structure to your system.
